With the construction of the railroad in the early 1800's, Atlanta became and continues to be an integral part of the US transportation system. The climate in Atlanta is mild compared to other cities in the area, due to its realitively high altitude. Summer highs average around 80, and winter lows are generally in the low 30's. There are many places to go and things to see in Atlanta. The world's largest aquarium opened in 2005. The World of Coca-Cola features the history of the well known soft drink and its advertising. Within walking distance of the aquarium and World of Coca-Cola are Centennial Olympic Park (home of the 1996 Summer Olympics), the Georgia Dome, Philips Arena, the CNN Center, and many other downtown destinations. Arts are well represented in Atlanta, including the Fox Theater, and Woodruff Arts Centre, home to the Alliance Theater, Atlanta Symphony, and High Museum of Art. Atlanta is home to history as well, including the Atlanta History Center, Carter Center and Presidential Library, and the Martin King Jr. National Historic Site, where the Reverend's home is preerved, as well as his final resting place.
