Huntsville Alabama | American auto transport destinationsLocated in Limestone and Madison counties, Huntsville is the fourth largest city in Alabama, and the Madison County seat. Named after Revolutionary War veteran John Hunt, Huntsville was the first incorporated town in Alabama in 1811. The growth of Huntsville was quick thanks to the fast growing railroad and cotton industries. After the Civil War, Huntsville became a center for cotton textile mills, each mill having its own housing community that included everything the mill workers needed. More recently, Huntsville became home to the Marshall Space Flight Center, making the town instrumental to the efforts of NASA. The Juno I rocket that carried the first US Sattelite and Astronauts into space were developed in Huntsville, as well as the Saturn V, used by the Apollo program for manned moom missions. The stop of the Apollo program nearly crippled Huntsville's economy in the 70's, but the development of the Space Shuttle and missile defense in the 1980's gave a resurgence that continues to this day. The strategic importance of Huntsville's missile development programs placed the city fourth on the list of targets likely to be struck by the Soviet Union in the event of a nuclear exchange, behing only New York City, Washington DC, and NORAD. So, if you're a cotton farmer, rocket scientist, or anything in between, Huntsville is the place for you.
