Auto Transportation

Auto transportation typically comes in two forms.

That is, open or closed transport.

What is the difference between these two forms of automobile shipping?

Open transport is by far the most common type.

It is the kind most people see every now and then on the highway. Typically, 10 to 20 cars are housed on the same transport truck. It is called open because the cars are exposed to the air as they travel.

Open transport is usually less expensive than closed because open shippers are able to spread the overhead costs between the many vehicles on their load. This is not the case with closed auto shippers.

Open auto transport is typically easier in that there are many more open transporters than closed ones. As a result, for those who are not able to plan ahead, or have a less common shipping route, chances are open transport is the best bet for convenience’s sake.

When it comes to closed auto transport the cost goes way up. This is the case because many of the enclosed transporters hold only one car at a time. So, each client is bearing the full brunt of overhead costs on their shipment.

Even in cases where closed transporters can take multiple-cars, it is typically only a handful and therefore does not bring down the cost a great deal.

The upside to this is that regardless of wind, rain, sleet, sun, or snow, the automobile inside the carrier is fully protected. There is generally more space as well. So, large classic cars which might not fit on an open carrier designed for newer cars, will be quite comfortable in an enclosed transporter.

For those who own rare and exotic vehicles there is no doubt they can afford a closed transport, and no doubt it’s the best solution.

However, closed auto transportation is not for the rich alone. For the perspicacious auto owner, the one who washes and waxes their car every week, the extra protection is just worth it.

How do you put a price on security – right?

Ultimately, determining whether open or enclosed auto transportation is the best way to go is up to the owner of the car. One has to weigh the costs with the benefits.

Either way, your car will arrive just as it has left, because auto transporters stake their livelihood on fulfilling this promise. Rest assured!
